Welcome to Greater Galesburg, Knox County Illinois and the GREDA (Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association) website. GREDA was formed in 2001 by an energetic partnership of leaders from the private and public sectors to address the economic needs of the Knox County region. Today, GREDA continues to focus on wealth creation by collaborating with regional allies to promote high-quality job growth. Furthermore, GREDA partners with economic development organizations within the region to market common assets and lobby for improvements in our infrastructure and workforce capabilities. Through collaboration and teamwork, the GREDA Region is better prepared to compete in today’s global marketplace.

Knox County offers great communities in which to live, work and play. Our grade, middle and high schools provide quality education to our children. Here you will discover educational opportunities available to the 4,500 students enrolled in our district. Our learning community is proud of our schools and their student’s achievements. Knox County is also home to Knox College, an excellent four year liberal arts college and Carl Sandburg College one of the finest community colleges in Illinois.

Knox County’s strategic location relative to the Midwest transportation infrastructure provides great advantages, especially as an alternative to the growing congestion in Chicago. Knox County is strategically located approximately three hours from Chicago and St. Louis and about one hour east of the Mississippi River. The area is served by Interstate 74 and two US Highways. BNSF Rail main lines carry 150-200 trains through Galesburg per day in seven directions. The region is served by over 100 motor freight carriers, including all major national carriers. The Quad City International Airport and Peoria International Airport are within 45 minutes of Galesburg and offer the availability of multiple flights to other Midwestern cities and major hubs. Galesburg’s municipal airport has 5400 and 2800 feet all weather cross runways with full service jet prop plane maintenance and charter service.
